Where can taste take me?

Welcome to my blog,

For this AP we were tasked with doing a food critique. First, let me give you a quick rundown of what our unit was about. Unirocnly our unit was named “Death”. We started off the unit by going on an FE to Uncommon ground. This made us dig deeper into where does our food come from. We started to learn about the industrial revolution and the green revolution. The industrial revolution started in the late 1700s. This consisted of large-scale industry, mechanized manufacturing, and the factory system. New machines, one of which would’ve been the” cotton gin”. The green revolution started in the early 1950s, it consisted of the development of high-yielding plants specifically, like wheat and rice. We then learned about Ayurveda says that 6 tastes that all foods can be: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent, and Astringent. We then went on an FE to Humboldt Park to talk to a forager, her name was Nina. We talked about how to get grounded when it comes to asking for permission from nature. We tried different plants that were from the camomile family. Overall this unit has taught me to always keep an open mind when it comes to where does my food come from.

Food review:

Good evening,

There’s something about this month that always feels so full of promise. A slow spring bursts, which always makes me love this time of year in June in Chicago. My name is LG, I will be reviewing a triple cheeseburger from Mcdonald’s and then recreating my own at home. With this week starting off with memorial day, I started off the week eating TONS of burgers. From my mother's cooking to my uncles. My palate wasn't too keen to try another burger, but eating these has helped me see that not everyone has the same tastes as me. What may be salty to me be spicey to someone else? Thursday, June 2nd, I went to   Upon first glance, it would seem like both burgers and fries were almost identical. I first tasted the burger from McDonald's first, it had a crunchy texture to it from the lettuce. The cheese gave it a very cheesy and tangy texture. The meat wasn't very tough, it was very tender and easy to bite through. As I said before I had been eating leftovers all week, so this was a very different taste than what I was used to. I believe that the Mcdonald's burger is processed food. I believe in this because Mcdonald's is a fast food restaurant, their food is cooked over and over for customers, its not made to order. When you eat at McDonald you're eating food that's been sitting for hours. Next, I tried my burger. I cooked this burger on our grill. This burger was savory, with flavors all throughout it. It had hints of smokey flavor. My dad helped me make it because I was too scared to even go near the flame. So my dad helped me prepare them. I got the hints of season salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. All there but subtle flavors. These are the flavors I'm used to. I tend to stay away from fast food for dinner. Going to sleep whilst eating fast food isn't something I enjoy doing. The color of the restaurant burger was nowhere near comparison to my burger, with the grill marks and the darker textures. I did notice however that the flavor was dulled down because and in my opinion, I feel like it required more seasoning salt. I think at this point you can tell that my dad is the one that usually makes anything on the grill. The burger was also kinda stiff which I don't seriously like, but it might just be me. Overall I was kind of disappointed because I was really looking forward to the homemade burger.

I preferred the homemade one because I found that there was more flavor in it. If I'm being honest the Restaurant burger disappointed me. I mentioned earlier that burger has a lot of assortment of flavors but this can be a con because you don’t know how it’ll turn out until the very end.  I want my burger to be as authentic to the family as it can be. Although eating the restaurant's burger was good I didn't feel the same feeling as eating the homemade burger because I couldn’t feel the love that goes into the cooking the smiles and jokes we share whilst cooking it. The hard work that my family puts into making it a meal. So while I have my opinions on both of these dishes I certainly like the memories and the experience of the homemade one.

Redefining Queenship: Gender, Power, and Ambition in Shakespeare's Macbeth

Welcome to my blog,  In our first Drama unit, we tackled the question,  "How do we respond to gender norms and stereotypes?"  To explore this, we dove into the works of William Shakespeare, examining how theater can inspire social change. We focused on  Macbeth , using the play as a lens to question traditional gender roles and the evolving concept of what it means to be a queen. This was the perfect foundation for the unit, letting us dig deeper into our own ideas of strength and duty. To me, a queen is someone who puts her role before herself, making difficult choices—even ones that might be considered morally complex. While we didn’t have many field trips, we had inspiring guest speakers. Regina Taylor, known for her role as Michelle Obama's mother in  The First Lady  and her work in  Lovecraft Country , shared her insights on how storytelling can bridge divides of race, gender, and class. She likened the influence of media to the civil rights movem...

Classroom 2.0

Welcome to my blog! Our AP was to design our classroom. Here's how it went.     We started by brainstorming ideas of how to make our classroom better and to make it more functional but also keeping in mind that we are in uncertain times.  We also brainstormed ideas for "Classroom Rules". I came up with a few ideas such as, getting plants and repurpose a book shelf and turn it into a planter box. I also came up with the idea of making an aquaponics system not only would it be a closed system it would open our options to grow things, and taking care of things.      The reason why the aquaponics system is so dear to me is because in the 8th grade, I built my own! I'm taking my critical thinking skills and putting them to good use. The aquaponics system would serve as a serine place of peace because its showing the life cycle of plants, and fish of course.     We also had an agreement for the guidelines of what the classroom should look like, we...

A not so healthy relationship.

In this unit in Healthy Relationships in Shakespear,  we started off by reading/watching Othello. We had to assess whether this was a healthy relationship. It took quite some time to figure out which "Healthy" relationship I was going to choose. In the end, I decided to go with "Desdemona, and Othello". It took me a while to see that this couple who were almost certainly destined to be apart but yet somehow ended up together, didn't deserve each other. Othello was most certainly the lover type but he lacks control of his anger. Othello furthermore was destined to fail. He let his jealousy and his anger get the best of him. Yet even as Othello was lied to about the misdeeds of his wife, he seemed to believe the baseless claims. Here are the criteria of what makes a healthy and unhealthy relationship.  Healthy relationship:  • Mutual respect.  Respect means that each person values who the other is and understands the other person’s boundaries. • Trust.  Partners s...
